Faculty of Law Holds an Awareness Scientific Seminar Entitled “Combating Corruption: National and International Frameworks”

 

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Khaled El-Dardali, President of the University; the leadership of Professor Dr. Hanan El-Nahas, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Shaimaa Abdel-Ghani Attallah, Acting Dean of the Faculty,

and within the framework of the activities of the International Anti-Corruption Day, the Faculty of Law held, on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, an awareness scientific seminar entitled “Combating Corruption: National and International Frameworks.” The seminar witnessed wide attendance from faculty members, professors, teaching assistants, administrative staff, and students of the Faculty.

The seminar proceedings commenced with the national anthem of the Arab Republic of Egypt, followed by a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, marking the formal start of the academic program.

In her opening address, Professor Dr. Shaimaa Abdel-Ghani Attallah, Acting Dean of the Faculty, welcomed the distinguished guests and attendees. She emphasized that combating corruption is not merely a legal obligation, but a fundamental pillar for protecting public funds and achieving sustainable development. She further stressed the vital role of universities in promoting values of integrity by spreading legal awareness and enhancing students’ skills in policy analysis and the construction of effective governance systems. She affirmed that the seminar supports the Faculty’s mission in community service and the promotion of a culture of transparency.

In his speech, Professor Dr. Abdel-Tawab Moawad El-Shorbagy, Professor of Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law, addressed the national framework for combating corruption. He reviewed the Egyptian legislative framework governing the fight against corruption crimes, particularly criminal offenses such as bribery, and explained their negative impact on state institutions and public trust. He also highlighted the role of criminal law in deterrence and the realization of justice.

Additionally, Judge Dr. Ali Faragany, Vice President of the Court of Cassation, presented a practical perspective on the subject, outlining the supervisory procedures adopted by competent authorities to detect and follow up on corruption cases, the mechanisms of evidence collection, and coordination among relevant bodies. He emphasized the importance of institutional cooperation to ensure the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts.

The seminar also witnessed several interactive discussions and rapid dialogue sessions with the audience. Notable interventions included contributions by Professor Dr. Ahmed El-Hawary, Professor and Head of the Department of Private International Law, and Professor Dr. Akram El-Zoghbi, Assistant Professor of Public International Law, along with other valuable remarks that enriched the discussion and reflected the participants’ awareness and commitment to supporting integrity systems within society.

The seminar was moderated by Dr. Ahmed Salem, Assistant Lecturer in Civil and Commercial Procedures.

At the conclusion of the event, the Faculty of Law reaffirmed its continued commitment to upholding legal values and consolidating the principles of transparency and the rule of law, based on the belief that combating corruption is a shared responsibility that requires awareness, law, and unwavering will.
