Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Khaled El-Dardali, President of Zagazig University; the leadership and attendance of Professor Dr. Ihab El-Bablawy, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Shaimaa Abdel-Ghani Attallah, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law,
the Faculty of Law hosted on Monday, 8 December 2025, the First Scientific Conference of the Department of Islamic Sharia, entitled “Al-Isra and Al-Mi'raj… A Legal Perspective.” The conference was held within the framework of the Faculty of Law and Zagazig University’s efforts to promote interdisciplinary studies that integrate Islamic jurisprudence with contemporary legal concepts, and to support rigorous scientific research that balances authenticity and modernity.
The conference proceedings commenced with the national anthem, followed by a recitation from the Holy Qur’an delivered by Dr. Mohamed Saeed El-Qazzaz, Lecturer at the Department of Islamic Sharia.
The opening session featured a keynote address by Professor Dr. Ihab El-Bablawy, who expressed his appreciation for the Faculty’s efforts in organizing the conference, highlighting its reflection of the growing academic momentum within the University. He commended the precise and expressive choice of the conference title, noting its relevance to the central issue under discussion.
He further explained that the postgraduate sector at the University has witnessed significant qualitative development in academic programs and research output, which has positively impacted the University’s standing in international rankings, with several departments achieving advanced global positions according to recognized indicators—demonstrating the University’s commitment to enhancing the quality of research outcomes.
In her address, Professor Dr. Shaimaa Abdel-Ghani Attallah emphasized that the conference title reflects the enlightened vision of the Department of Islamic Sharia, combining the sanctity of the event with its legal implications derived from the values of justice and human dignity. She expressed her hope that the conference would serve as a scholarly platform enriching both legal and Sharia thought. She also affirmed the pioneering role of the Faculty of Law at Zagazig University as one of the first faculties to organize scientific conferences at the departmental level, reflecting its commitment to specialized scholarship and the development of knowledge fields within its academic units.
In the same context, Professor Dr. Mohamed Hamdy Bahansi, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, addressed the significance of Al-Isra and Al-Mi'raj, describing it as one of the greatest manifestations of divine power that reinforces sincere devotion and trust in God’s will. He noted that the opening verse of Surat Al-Isra—“Glory be to Him who took His servant by night”—underscores God’s transcendence and absolute power. He emphasized that the lesson for students lies in understanding that limited means do not prevent meaningful outcomes, and that sincere effort coupled with certainty opens horizons beyond expectations.
The conference featured distinguished research contributions presented by a group of professors of Islamic Sharia, including Professor Dr. Al-Husseini Suleiman Gad, Professor of Islamic Sharia; Professor Dr. Hany Kamal Jaafar, Professor and Head of the Department of Islamic Sharia; and Professor Dr. Asem Ahmed Hegazy, Professor of Islamic Sharia.
The presented papers addressed the legislative dimensions of the journey of Al-Isra and Al-Mi'raj and the principles it embodies that can be reflected in modern legal practices, particularly with regard to justice, the rejection of oppression, and the preservation of human dignity. The conference also highlighted a legal reading of the event as a rich scholarly approach linking the depth of Islamic heritage with contemporary legal analytical methodologies.
