Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Khaled El-Darrandali, President of Zagazig University, and the leadership of Professor Dr. Hilal Afifi, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and Professor Dr. Hanan El-Nanhass, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Shaimaa Abdel-Ghani Attallah, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Professor Dr. Mohamed Hamdi Bahnasi, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs,
And in line with the Faculty’s commitment to promoting community awareness and fostering a culture of respect, the Faculty of Law organized today a symposium titled “Combating Bullying – Between Awareness and Criminalization.” The event witnessed strong attendance and active engagement from students and faculty members.
The symposium began with the Egyptian national anthem, followed by a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an.
In her address, Professor Dr. Shaimaa Abdel-Ghani Attallah welcomed the attendees and then discussed the legal dimension of bullying, explaining that bullying is no longer merely negative behavior but a criminal act punishable by law. She highlighted key legislative provisions that criminalize such conduct to protect individuals and society. She also extended her thanks to the Student Union of the Faculty for their efforts in organizing college activities.
Professor Dr. Mohamed Hamdi Bahnasi shed light on the Islamic perspective on bullying, emphasizing that Islamic law preceded modern legislation in prohibiting harm, abuse, and mockery, and that mercy and tolerance are fundamental values within its ethical framework.
The symposium featured a lecture by Professor Dr. Mohamed Saeed, Professor of Psychology at the Faculty of Arts, Zagazig University, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on the types and forms of bullying—verbal, physical, and cyber—and explained its direct impact on victims’ mental health and how it can be detected and addressed.
The event was attended by Professor Dr. Mohamed Salah Abdel-Badea, Professor of Public and Constitutional Law; Dr. Mohamed Zayed, Lecturer in Commercial Law; and Dr. Ahmed Salem, Assistant Lecturer in Civil and Commercial Procedure Law.
At the conclusion of the symposium, the participants stressed the importance of strengthening awareness and positive behavior within the university community and confronting any form of bullying or abuse in support of a safe and conscious educational environment.
